Note penned by Major General Nathanael Greene appointing Colonel Clement Biddle as a volunteer aide-de-camp and is to "be obey'd accordingly". Written at his headquarters at Amboy during the New York and New Jersey campaigns on October 15, 1776, and roughly 1 month after the Battle of Harlem Heights. Greene commanded part of Washington's army in the December 1776 Battle of Trenton and the January 1777 Battle of Princeton. He was later appointed Quartermaster General of the Continental Army and served distinction at the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, Rhoode island, Guilford Courthouse, and Eutaw Springs. CONDITION: Staining along the lower margin, age toning along fold lines, small chip along upper and bottom edge. Overall very fine. BRM.
