The Jaguar XKE was built by Jaguar Cars from 1961 till 1974. Its combination of stunning looks, high performance and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of the 1960’s. More than 70,000 E-Types were manufactured over the 14- year cycle. England’s Daily Telegraph ranked the Jaguar E as one of the world’s most beautiful cars of all time. Sports Car International magazine called the “E” the number one car on their list of top sports cars of the 60’s. Enzo Ferrari called the E-Type “the most beautiful car ever made.”E-Types were initially designed as two-seat coupes (Fixed-Head Coupe), convertibles (Drop-Head Coupe), and later a 2+2 four-seat 2+2 was released on a longer wheelbase. Through its build cycle, three updates were designated and referred to as Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3. The Series one was built from 1961 till 1968. Late production 1967 and 68 models are commonly referred to as Series 1 ½ models as the covered headlights were removed to meet US safety requirements. Initially introduced with the 3.8 liter, double overhead cam, in-line 6 cylinder engine from the prior model XK150S, the motor produced 265 hp. In 1965 the engine was increased to 4.2 liters, producing the same amount of horsepower but with more torque. Also introduced were more comfortable adjustable seats and a fully synchronized 4-speed transmission. It was capable of 0-60 times of 7 seconds and quarter mile of 15.1 seconds. The 2+2 version of the coupe was added in 1966 and offered an automatic transmission as an option. The body was 9 inches longer to accommodate 4-place seating. A total of 1,983 2+2 series 1 ½ were produced. The Series 2 model was built from 1968 till 1971, with major changes made to address stringent pollution and safety guidelines in the American market. The Series 3 model incorporated a 5.3 V-12 engine to address performance lost in the Series 2 edition. It was a longer wheelbase to facilitate the size of the V-12 engine and the coupe version was dropped from the lineup. Offered is a 1967 XKE 2+2 Series 1 1/2 with a very special provenance. Cherished as the most desirable to drive of the Series 1 E-types, rarely is one offered with a documented celebrity ownership history. Equipped with the optional automatic transmission and 2+2 extended wheelbase, this E-type is a comfortable grand tourer with generous stowing capacity. What adds to the unique E-Type is the fact that it was previously owned by country western music legend, Hank Williams Jr. With light blue exterior and original black interior, this legend of sports car is only eclipsed by the legend of its prior owner. With copy of title with Hank Williams as owner, the E-Type’s beauty and celebrity ownership provide a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of this booming market in Series 1 E-Type Jaguars.• Celebrity Ownership• Series 1 1/2• Automatic Transmission• 4.2 Liter Engine• Rust Free• 43,395 miles
