Functionally identical to the 1860 Cavalry saber with a steel grip, this sword has a 34 - 3/4" gently curving blade with a partial double fuller running approximately 3/4 of the length of the blade. Right side of the ricasso marked "A.S. Co. / (Flaming Bomb) / 1906", left side marked "70 (Upside down) / US / JHC". Single braided wire wrap. Interior of guard marked "36". Scabbard with two hangers, distinct straight weld line. CONDITION: Very good. Blade is in what appears to be its original bright polish with a few areas of extremely minor pitting, and some minor chips in the blade. Guard is good with some marks from handling and use. Grip and wrap are both good, complete, with some light evidence of use. Guard and pommel have turned an even brown patina. Scabbard is good, complete, with pitting beginning approximately 2/3 of the way down the scabbard and running down to the drag. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport. EW.
