Half-length portrait of a gentleman wearing a powdered wig, brown coat and a white ruffled cravat. Resting his right arm on the table beside him, the sitter holds a book in his right hand and spectacles in his left, as if his reading was interrupted to pose for the artist. Attribution is based on a receipt from Sotheby's. Provenance: Acquired from Sotheby's Arcade, New York, March 27, 1984, lot 731.
