This box is very reminiscent of the styles of boxes produced in Nuremberg circa 1600. Brass construction with floral scroll throughout, with vignettes of mythical gryphon on lid, lit braziers on sides, and additional florals on faces. Lock mechanism utilizes a pair of coiled flat springs to keep tongues locked under the lip of the lid, which are detracted by use of a key. Key is included but broken at stem. CONDITION: Brass has been cleaned and designs have been softened throughout. Iron areas have oxidation throughout, but coil springs still seem pliable.
