Blade of shobu-zukuri form, distinct without a yokote. Left side of ubu nakago signed in two characters Mitsukane. One mekugi. Iron tsuba pierced with stylized clouds. Fuchi and kashira with remnants of gilt decoration. Leather tsuka-ito and shishi dog menuki. Kurikata with interesting textured wrap. Kojiri with remnants of the same style of gilding present on Fuchi and Kashira. Modern sageo. Hamon cannot be seen due to polish. CONDITION: Very good, cleaned over some old spotting. Appropriate delamination in blade with some ware opening. A few small chips to cutting edge. Mounts are very good and appropriately age patinated. Accompanied by a letter signed T. Wada who originally sold the sword in 1980 and his description of the sword. Also accompanying is a number of sheets with a basic visual glossary for Japanese swords. EW
