Measures approximately 26 - 13/16" from tip of kissaki to munemachi. Very shallow, almost mu-zori, torii zori architecture. Iori mune. Hada is itame mixed with masame. Suguha hamon. Characteristics of boshi are obscured by state of polish. Kurijiri nakagojiri, nakago with single mekugi-ana, punched, and three character signature reading "Sukesada Saku"; a lovely deep patina is present on nakago. Gilt copper habaki. mounts are Army style shin gunto mounts with single hanger. Saya with double strap hanger, semegane, kojiri, and koiguchi in traditional floral-and-roe pattern. Gilt tsuba with florals on a roe ground. Fuchi, kabuto-gane with floral-and-roe pattern, menuki in the form of chrysanthemums. Traditionally woven tsuka with rayskin same. Kabuto-gane with silver family mon for the Watanabe clan. Sarute with a blue-brown sword knot of company grade. CONDITION: Sword is out of polish, with some features visible, mostly on upper third of blade, with some mossing towards machi and surface level scratches. Saya is very good, with some rubbing to mounts and chipping paint to saya body. Mounts are very good with expected rubbing to gilt; tsuka-ito is tight with hand rubbing on upper half. A good example of a remounted blade for war use; probably a family blade. PROVENANCE: Roger Bender Collection. EMW
