Late 18th century. Chester, England. The inlaid mahogany and oak bonnet with swan's neck pediment termination in rosettes centering a baluster turned finial above the arched door, flanked by square reeded posts joined to the case. The throat, with rectangular door, has scalloped cresting and mahogany cross banding flanked by reeded panels above the molded box base with cross banded raised panel flanked by string inlaid canted corners. The whole on a molded bracket base with undulating apron. The brass, weight-driven movement striking on a bell with a moon phase and ships dial in the arch. The iron back plate engraved "WALKER & HUGHES". The movement appears intact, moon dial in place but not connected to movement. The enameled face with Roman and Arabic chapter rings centering a sweep seconds and calendar subsidiary dials. Time and strike apertures all within floral decorated spandrels on green and gold field. Clock is 93-1/2" tall, throat width is 17", case width is 22", depth is 10". Case with dry and crusty surface in need of re-polishing, finial present but needs small repair. Clock is offered with pair of weights, pendulum, winder and door key.
