Color lithogrph of George Catlin's "Buffalo Dance No.8" printed by Day & Haghe circa 1840. Measuring 14-1/4"T x 19-1/4"W and framed in a beveled wood frame. Marked "Catlin del on Stone by McGahey" in the lower left corner and "Day & Haghe Lith to the Queen" in the lower right corner. This piece is part of a selction of hand-colored lithographs from George Catlin's North American Indian Portfolio. In 1827, George Catlin, an illustrator from Philadelphia, became the first artist to attempt the perilous journey up the Missouri River, and the first to create visual records of his experiences travelling among the Plains Indians of North America.
