Born in Linz, Austria in 1855, Carl Kahler was a genre and animal painter, known particularly for his cat paintings. Kahler studied at the Munich Art Academy and in Paris. He moved to New York at some point in the late 1880's and then to San Francisco in 1891. He opened a studio where he specialized in figure painting. Very minor inpainting.
