Attractive and displayable circa 20th Century Ship's engine order telegraph. As the word describes, the telegraph on board ship is used as a communicating device to transfer orders of change in speed or direction from the bridge to the engine control room since the bridge and engine control room are on different levels. The engine order telegraph consists of levers which can be moved over different speed positions for ahead and astern direction. The initial movement of telegraph is always from the navigation bridge and is done by moving the lever in the required direction, which rings the telegraph bell. Both the telegraph and the engine room contain a bell which will ring when the order is moved. This example is constructed of brass with wood handles. The pedestal exhibits a plaque which is marked by Admiral Marine Co. The face is black with white letters and is covered with plastic in place of glass. The face is marked by A. Robinson & Co. LTD. CONDITION: The brass exhibits a pleasing patina with scattered dark spots. The levers function properly all the way around and the bell sounds when moved. Plastic covers are loose and side cover is separating. This would compliment a nautical themed display. Overall good. JLD
