A wonderful example of Teniers fascination with the occult. A witch stands at her cauldron with zoomorphic figures around her and flying snakes shooting through the air above her head. Bearing an R.C. Vose, Boston, MA stamp on verso and labels from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, No. 50.15.4 and the Museum of History, Science and Art, Los Angeles, all with attributions to David Teniers, the Younger.
Provenance: J.D. Koepfli, Boston, MA; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Permanent European Art Collection, accessioned in 1950; De-accessioned and sold by Sotheby's, New York, 1977.
