Circa 1700-1750 cast pewter fur trade gorget featuring a hand chased kingfisher bird. Similar in size and shape to a silver example featuring an animal center motif in the collection of the National Museum of the American Indian attributed to the Anishinaabe, Walpole Island, Michigan. Corresponds to archaeological recovered examples from areas used by the Chippewa, Ottawa, Potawatomi, Miami, Menominee, Winnebago, Sauk, Fox, Kickapoo, and Ojibwa. Measures 5" x 3" with concave reverse that shows period wear. Red trade cloth and sinew neck drape is more recent manufacture to facilitate proper display. CONDITION: Very good with engraving worn but visible. BRM.
