A Third Reich Luftwaffe Officer Sword with reproduction Damascus Blade. The unmarked Damascus steel blade features what appears to be a mix of the so-called "Maiden Hair" and "Rose-Bud" Damascus patterns. The blade itself is a post-war reproduction which was used after the war to replace the original nickel plated blade. The remainder of the sword is constructed of original parts. The nickel silver cross guard and pommel feature a central gilded swastika on both sides with a nice even patina throughout with areas of the original silvering still bright. The grip is made of a Moroccan blue leather wrapped wooden core, which is bound with a double twist silvered brass cord that has developed a nice patina. The grip leather has a few very small areas of light scuffs. The scabbard features a hand etched nickel silver throat and drag. The etching features a motif of oak leaves and acorns, and appears to have been executed nicely by hand. A light patina has developed in areas of the fittings as well as in a few recessed areas of the etching. The main body of the scabbard is nicely wrapped with blue Moroccan leather with scattered marks, scuffs and small dents throughout. The original blue leather hanger is still originally attached to the scabbard. Regardless of the reproduction Damascus blade, the sword displays very nicely. CONDITION: Very good. D.W.
