Mid-19th century. Possibly French. This rare musical automaton tall case clock features an architecturally scaled walnut neo-classical case with ogee molded crest over the rectangular glass panel door, the sides with hinged access doors to the mechanism. The main case with large hinged door of two recessed walnut panels within scrolled molded borders. Each door applied with a central carved foliate cartouche, the case sides with recessed panels. The whole is raised on a bracket base with shaped returns. The weight driven musical mechanism consists of 90 pipes playing on massive 20 - 1/2" cylinders, accompanied by four musicians mounted within the opening of the face. The face is decorated with a painted mountainous landscape, a young couple seated in a meadow in the foreground, all above an 8 - 1/2" diameter enameled, slightly convex dial with a roman numeral chapter ring. The clock is accompanied by a large brass-clad weight in "as found" condition and is offered with three cylinders. Case is structurally very good, with old, cleaned and polished surface. Rich chestnut color and mellow patina. The movement and mechanism are of unknown working order. There is a clockmaker's label affixed to the interior of the case stating that the clock was serviced in 1994. From a private New Jersey estate collection.

This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.
