Civil War 1860 Pattern Cavalry Officer's Saber by Ames with etched blade. Gilt brass hilt with floral motifs and eagle on the inner face of the counterguard. Plain, enlisted style scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Brass hilt preserves almost all of its original gilt. Sharkskin grip wrap is excellent deep grey. Etching is vivid with very good preserved frosting. Floral motifs on either side. Obverse with etched Ames address at ricasso, trophy of arms at center with raised wing American eagle overhead and drypoint etched ribbon with motto above. Trophy of arms with block "US" as central motifs on reverse. Deep frosting, vivid etching. Good edge and point. A few tiny grey spots at tip. Scabbard is a plain enlisted style in the bright and excellent, with no dents. A very nice example of cavalry officer's saber by the most well-known US maker. (SR).
