Archival framed and matted handwritten letter by Zachary Taylor, 12th President of the United States and Mexican-American War general. Site 16-1/2" by 21". Framed with color image of Taylor. Overall 33" by 28-1/2". Letter addressed to "Mr. John A. Watkin's" and dated July 17, 1848. Letter discusses why Taylor was selected at the Whig convention for the Presidential election of 1848, where he was chosen over esteemed politicians, Henry Clay, Winfield Scot, and Daniel Webster. Letter also discusses his principles and plans to "bring the government to back to the principles which guided our first presidents". Letter consists of 4 pages, which appear to be in his own hand. Signed "Z. Taylor". CONDITION: Good. Ink oxidized to brown with some blead through. A few areas of staining and creases where it was folded. Frame very good with a few abrasions. BAS
