This fine and important tall case clock features a bonnet with arched swan's neck molded crest, centering a ball finial above the frieze, with turned rosettes at the corners above the Gothic style pointed arch glass panel door within the throat. Removed within the throat is a pointed arched glass paneled door, opening to reveal a 10" enamel dial with roman numeral chapter ring, set within a sheet tin panel, paint decorated with one of the four seasons in each corner. This is surmounted by an additional architectural panel decorated with an Angel entering an Artist's studio, the artist has awoken in his bed and is praying to the angel. The panel is within a mahogony frame flanked by ebonized columns. Above, within a triangular frame, is the inscription "DAS BILD VON GUSTAV IORDENS". The musical automaton mechanism consists of 40 pipes, 5 carved and painted musicians, each with blue uniform jacket and red pants. The lower case, with free-standing columns, each with ring-turned capitals, centering a Gothic-style panel door decorated overall with Circassion walnut veneers. The center of the waist door has a Gothic arched molded glass panel behind which one can view the pendulum bob. The throat is joined to the box base, which is constructed with engaged three-quarter columns centering a wood panel, the clock on a simple molded plinth. Case in very good original condition with good mellow patina and a rich, chestnut-brown color. Condition of movement and musical mechanism is unknown. From a private New Jersey estate collection.
