Last quarter 18th century. New Jersey/Pennsylvania. Fine clock features a bonnet with a dramatic molded swan's neck pediment with carved star rosettes, alternating with three urn-form finials on corbel bases. The frieze has scrolling pierced molding above the tombstone door, flanked by turned and reeded colonnettes. The narrow cove and dentil molded waist has an arched pendulum door, surrounded by carved floral roundel, flanked by engaged reeded quarter columns. The cove molded box base has an applied turtle back panel flanked by the quarter columns, and the clock is raised on ogee bracket feet. The enamel dial is decorated with delicate classical urn flanked by ribbon tied swags and leafy tendrils in the arch, above the Roman numeral chapter ring centering a calendar aperture above a brass plate inscribed "BENJN MORSE" in script, all within gilt spandrels. The brass movement is driven by a single weight suspended on a chain, striking on a bell. The clock is offered with pendulum and original iron weight. The case has early cleaned and polished surfaces and is a rich, reddish brown color. The movement is clean and intact. Overall in very good condition.
