34 - 1/4" diamond shaped blade with fullers on each side that measure approximately 6 - 3/8", and marked "SOLINGEN", with two other marks, softened, but appear to be "CN". Cast and chased gilt D guard with oval counterguard, decorated with florals throughout. Porcelain handle has painted scenes of a river scene with a stout tower, with a pair of people in a boat on the river. CONDITION: Overall very good. Blade has been carefully cleaned in the European fashion with some spots of darkness and polishing marks. Guard is very good with some rubbing of gilt throughout, particularly at high edges. Handle is very good, with a small chip and a few tight cracks towards pommel which do not interfere with vignettes. Smallswords like this were fashion accessories in the 17th and 18th centuries, and having a porcelain grip was quite flashy. EMW
