World War I US Marine Corps brothers grouping consisting a of Patten 1917 tunic and trousers, and a pair of Pattern 1912 khaki trousers named to Wendell L. Onstine with dog tags from his brother Everett Ervine Onstine. Pvt. Wendell L. Onstine joined the Marine Corps in Dec. 1917 and was trained at the new West Coast Recruit Depot in San Diego and Naval Air Station before joining the First Marine Aviation Force and serving in France with the American Expeditionary Forces. His brother, Everett Ervine Onstine, was born in Flandreau, South Dakota on August 5, 1896. Onstine enlisted in the US Marine Corps on July 25, 1918 at the age of 21, and served for about 8 months until he was discharged on March 25, 1919. After the war, Onstine resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota and rests there today. The tunic is unmarked but retains all of its original USMC buttons and is very clean overall, showing no evidence of moth nips or tarnishing. There is some separation on the interior around the sleeves, where the sleeve lining has come loose as well as a small tear in the lining towards the lower back. The trousers are stamped by the USMC Quartermaster Depot and are dated "1918-1919" with a "3-M" size stamp. There are no missing buttons. The trousers are in matching condition to the tunic, as there is no evidence of mothing or tarnishing. All buttons are present. There are scattered stains but the trousers are not tarnished. CONDITION: Good. The set is complete with Everette Onstine's dog tags which are secured to the epaulette. This is a very well preserved set. CONDITION: Excellent. JLD
