The solid wood cabinet is nicely constructed and features a marquetry diamond front as well as a contemporary plaque explaining the virtues of this unique looking automaton. The mechanism is almost entirely original, with the main worm drive shaft and corresponding barrel gear being modern. There are some unconnected wires and micro switches inside, indicating that there was an unrealized intention to circumvent the hand-cranked cylinder on the rear of the cabinet. The hand crank is missing. A rare find with five monkeys and the original drum.
