Very nice example of a World War II Japanese Type 90 Army helmet with 2nd pattern padded cover. The cover is in standard 2nd pattern configuration except for the star which is a period reattached army star, taken from a sun helmet. The inside of the cover features the typical off white lining with specification stamps and the original owner's name. Information states that some of the kanji was translated: "Ichinosawa Butai Imano tai" and the owner's name "Sekiguchi Shohei". The helmet cover retains its original padding and tie strings. The helmet features its wartime tan camouflage paint with star affixed to the front. The star and rivets have been painted gold. There is a tan paint line which wraps around the entire helmet. Helmet is stamped with an "S" inside a diamond on the interior rim. The liner is relatively clean and 2 of the 3 pillows behind the leather liner tongues retain their padding. Canvas liner tie is undone and the canvas chinstrap is present. CONDITION: The cover exhibits various blemishes on the exterior and interior. There are black spots on the exterior as well as rust stains and dark brown spots on the lining of the cover. The helmet retains most of its wartime paint and exhibits scattered areas of surface rust and paint loss. There is an obvious area of pitting around the interior rim as well as scattered areas of pitting around the rest of the interior rim. The liner remains pliable and stiff in others. Canvas chinstrap exhibits areas of fraying. Overall very good. A very nice example of a WWII Japanese helmet and cover. JLD
