In all the reference books, this payout counter slot machine is considered to be manufactured by Charles T. Matey Novelty Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and manufactured in 1894. In a copy of an original flyer included with this lot, the machine shows the distributor as J.T. Matthews & Co. at the corner of Longworth and Elm in Cincinnati, Ohio. Billed as the "Most Profitable Slot Machine" by its operators, as 25% of its play goes to the house. Drop a nickel in the slot and if it lands in one of two slots located at the corners, you push a button near a cast door to reveal your jackpot. This example has old finish to the oak cabinet, original pin field and operating jackpot drawers. A great example of an early and rare payout slot machine from the end of the 19th century. With key.
