This 28 - 1/2"x38 - 1/2" poster is the only of its type we have ever encountered. We are dating this piece to 1905-1910 as the seven images of marines in action deal with the Spanish American War, The Banana Wars, and The Boxer Rebellion. All but one of the images features palm trees which helps us place location of action and one features a marine being pulled in a rickshaw dating to the Boxer Rebellion of 1905. The images are woodblock prints, the largest of which features marines in action at Manilla Bay in 1898. It was issued in Springfield Missouri and is one of the earliest Marine recruiting posters that we are aware of. CONDITION: This rare poster does have some issues. There is overall toning, the lower right corner is missing, there is some edge chipping and tears and some water staining on the upper half. There has never been an attempt to restore this poster which is eminently possible for someone wishing to upgrade its condition and eye appeal. Regardless it is so rare and so early, this would be a landmark acquisition for any military poster collector or marine core afishionado. This large poster is matted and framed to 40"x50", under plexiglass which reduces the weight.

This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.
