Lot consists of: two post-Civil War officers swords. (A) 1872 pattern cavalry officer saber, standard configuration. Scabbard etched with presentation: "Adj. T.C. Power 158th INFT'Y INDIANA VOLS., from CITIZENS of INDIANAPOLIS 1898". Blade etched with Power's rank and name also. Taylor C. Power was a Battalion Adjutant in the regiment from late April to early November 1898, the length of service of the unit. CONDITION: Medium brass tone, traces of gilt to the hilt. Small wear spots to grip. Wire in place. Blade bright with some grey spots. Etched floral, patriotic and military motifs both sides. Pettibone dealer address reverse ricasso. Solingen knight's head blade maker mark obverse ricasso. Scabbard body faded blue but distinct etched presentation. Nicely detailed cast floral mounts. Sling hooks still in place on rings. (B) Post-Civil War narrow blade 1852 pattern US Navy officer sword. Standard configuration. Blade etched name: "A.B. Davis.". "Rosenkrans, Thatcher and Co. Milwaukee Wis." dealer name etched reverse at bottom. Frosting is grey, highlighting etched motifs: eagle on cannon, anchor and shield, roped vine on obverse; anchor, oval of stars, floral, crossed arms, "USN" at top reverse. Scabbard black leather, brass mounts, serpent on drag, ropes on upper mounts. CONDITION: Very good. Age patina to brass. Wear to white rayskin grip. Wire in place. Blade is very good, bright, good edge and point. SR. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport.
