Lot consists of: (A) Civil War stencil named to Joseph Lindsey Jr. who mustered into the Company E, 38th Massachusetts Infantry on August 22, 1862 for 3 years’ service at the age of 35. He was promoted to Corporal on July 1, 1863 and is listed as present on every muster roll until August 1864 and was marked as sick until his muster out date on June 30, 1865. Lindsey was present with the Regiment during the Battle of Fort Bisland in southern Louisiana, the Siege of Port Hudson, and the assaults on that city on May 27 and June 14, where they suffered considerable casualties. After the surrender of Port Hudson on July 9, the regiment participated in the ill-fated Red River Campaign. He was with the regiment when they were transferred to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and were attached to the Army of the Shenandoah but thankfully dodged the Valley Campaigns of 1864, where they suffered significant casualties. The stencil reads “J. Lindsey. Jr. / Co. E. 38th. Mass. V.”. CONDITION: Good with nice age-related patina and slight warping. (B) 1st Massachusetts Cavalry reunion ribbon and hat insignia with soldered hooks on reverse. Their service needs no introduction as they were a hard-fought unit that participated in many campaigns during the Civil War. The ribbons are commonly seen worn by veterans after the war. CONDITION: Ribbon with light stains and edge wear. Hook missing from back of cap insignia. Nice patina.

Item Dimensions: 7 x 6 x 2"
