Lot consists of 2 late 18th/early 19th century wooden field canteens, iron bound with carrying handles. (A) Red painted oval, iron carrying handle, one loop for the handle is missing from the band and the band rivet repaired. Stamped "IOSS" on both sides and "A. SLIND" on one. CONDITION: Good. Band with loop has rust holes and is slightly large. Bands tacked in place. Nice paint with minor wear. (B) Flat bottom oval. Unpainted, dark brown wood. Wood carrying handle. Stamped "S. TROWBRIDGE." Identified by consignor as Rev. Samuel Trowbridge (1742-1824) who served in Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War. CONDITION: Very good. Undisturbed patina. Cork stopper with pull ring likely replaced.
