A depiction of the Pennsylvania State Fencibles on parade with the Philadelphia waterworks and view of the city in the background. Three flags are flying in the scene - the American flag, Pennsylvania flag and the Fencibles flag with the words: "Pennsylvania Chamber". Also included is a busby hat, unique to the Pennsylvania State Fencibles and it's case. The hat has a tassel marked "SF" for State Fencibles. The Fencibles were a military organization raised in Philadelphia in 1813 as part of the Pennsylvania militia and continued as a unit in the National Guard until independent battalions were abolished around 1900. Provenance: The Joseph Sorger Collection, Freeman's Auction 10/05/10, Lot 360. Relined, minor inpainting in sky.
