Lot consists of: three American US regulation cavalry sabers. (A) An Ames manufactured 1906 pattern cavalry saber dated 1906 and marked "A.S. Co." over and Ordnance bomb on the obverse ricasso. Reverse bears "US" and "JHC" inspector stamps. CONDITION: Very good. Leather and wire complete on the grip. Steel hilt has been painted an army brown. Date shows some dings and small bit of polishing, probably a collector's effort to bring it up. Leather washer in place. Grey steel blade with some dark grey spots, good point and good edge with two or three very minor handling nicks, not readily evident to the eye. Scabbard is the 1906 style, brown, three or four dents and slight curve near the bottom, probably to firmly retain the sword. Two pieces of saber slings still on the rings. (B) Civil War 1840 style import saber by Lunenschloss, showing their "PDL" mark on the reverse ricasso. Dark brown iron scabbard with drag, rings and throat in place. Throat is made in the US style with no side screw. CONDITION: Fair. Hilt is dark. Wire binding is there, but leather has deteriorated, exposing wrapping cord and wood on the reverse. Blade has good edge and point, but has dark grey and some brown spotting overall. Scabbard has three or four dents lower down on the reverse, possibly "rattle dents" to better retain the saber and reduce noise when mounted. (C) 1865 dated and inspected 1860 pattern light cavalry saber by Emerson and Silver of Trenton, N.J. Firm name on the reverse ricasso, "US / JM / 1865" on the obverse ricasso. CONDITION: Both the saber blade and hilt, and the scabbard were plated at some point. Blade is very good and bright. Some very small points of brown coming through at the tip. The date and inspection marks are sharp. The firm name is partially legible, but unambiguous. Plating is worn somewhat on the scabbard and hilt, with some brown areas and spots coming through on the scabbard. Grip binding wire is all there. Leather shows wear on top ridges and sides near the pommel cap. Blade tang shows roughness, probably from dismounting for the plating. Leather washer is absent. Still, a showy blade.
