Lot consists of: three cutlasses with blackened steel hilts and falchion blades complete with scabbards. One with frog. (A) Unmarked with cutout hilt. Black Bakelite grip with copper rivets. Brass mounted brown leather scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Full blue on blade and black on hilt. Scabbard very good, but with tear at fastening tab slot. Two staples missing from drag, two present, one loose. Brass mounts with dark patina. Initials scratched in scabbard. Minor scuffs. (B) Unmarked with cutout hilt. Black Bakelite grip with steel rivets. Brass mounted brown leather scabbard. CONDITION: excellent. Full blue on blade and black on hilt. Scabbard very good. Minor scuffs. Medium patina to brass mounts. (C) US Navy Model 1917 cutlass. Deeply marked USN at obverse ricasso. Solid cup guard. Full black leather scabbard with brass drag. Civil War style belt frog in bridle leather in place on fastening stud. CONDITION: Excellent with good edge and point. About 95% blue or better, just some rubbing to gray near tip and one small spot about 2" above the USN stamp. Minor scuffs to frog. Stitching tight. Age patina to brass drag. The cutout hilts are sometimes listed as variant patterns of the M1917, but seem to be Klewangs intended for Dutch forces, many of which ended up in US hands. Some are known to have been issued to US units in the Pacific in World War II for use as machetes. The USN marked cutlass is a very nice example of the last of the US navy cutlass patterns. SR
