Alfred von Tirpitz (1849-1930) was one of of the Imperial German "Kaiserliche Marine's" best known admirals. From 1897-1916 he served as the "Secretary of the State of the Imperial German Naval Office" and was responsible for the growth of the Imperial German Navy. Lot contains: (A) Shoulder board of von Tirpitz, (B) Postcard of von Tirpitz in uniform, (C) von Tirpitz portrait postcard, and (D) Handwritten letter from von Tirpitz. (A) Alfred von Tirpitz was promoted to Grossadmiral in 1911 and photos (see item B) of him show him wearing admiral's shoulder boards with four rank pips. This naval should board has a dark blue wool underside with a gilt naval button attached to the black painted wire hook used to secure the board to the uniform. Four gilted brass pips are attached to the heavy wide bullion corded board. There is no provenance with the shoulder board other than the consignor had another one identical to this board that was obtained from a German museum. (B) 1916 postmarked sent portrait postcard showing von Tirpitz in full uniform wearing admiral's shoulder boards with four rank pips. (C) Artist drawn portrait postcard of Grossadmiral von Tirpitz. (D) Handwritten letter from von Tirpitz to Friedrich von Ingenohl (1857-1933) dated July 2, 1906. Von Ingenohl was the a future admiral and commander of the Imperial German High Seas Fleet. The sheet of note paper was folded in half and von Tirpitz wrote on two of the four sections. CONDITION: All four items are excellent plus overall. WZ
