Lot consists of 5 pieces of World War I aircraft fabric that were part of the Smithsonian Aviation Relic Series. There are fragments from the following aircraft: (A) Albatros D. Va No 7161/17 (B) Curtiss NC-4 (C) Wright EX "Vin Fiz" (D) Fokker T-2 (E) Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Vega 5B. All pieces of fabric measure approximately 2" x 2" and are contained in their original shipping tubes. 1 tube contains 2 pieces of fabric. CONDITION: Several pieces have separated from their display pages. Tubes are worn and the displays are nicely preserved inside with some signs of aging. (F) Framed and signed photo of famous WWI flying ace, Eddie Rickenbacker. The photo is addressed to Dr. John K. Lattimer, who was a friend of Rickenbacker. The photo measures approximately 13 - 1/2" x 11" including the frame. The Rickenbacker rendition comes with a James Spence Authentication Auction Letter of Authenticity. CONDITION: The signature exhibits light fading but remains legible. Frame exhibits blemishes from age. All items in the lot were once part of the John K. Lattimer Collection. Lattimer was known to have an interest in military history and collect items related to aviation and other oddities. Most shipping tubes are addressed to him.
