Early 20th century. The bust is carved from the solid, in pine, of an African American with overall painted surfaces and exaggerated features with a tattered bandage wrapped around his head. There is a pill on his tongue that he is taking to relieve the pain. Bust is 16" tall. The saw with applied handle in brown wash and white paint carved in pine. Saw is 38-1/2" long. Structurally good with some deterioration to wood at the neck of the bust. Painted surfaces of both are dry and crusty with normal and expected weathering. Surfaces are original.
