This is Steiff's largest Eric Fledermaus, or Eric the Bat. His body composition is quite intricate. His mouse-like torso and head are constructed from tan and white mohair. His tiny arms and legs are tan mohair and lined in wires. His grey wings are made from very thin plastic-like sheeting with wire inserts. His wings have a few tiny colored spots on them and one wire is broken near a seam. His face comes to life with a black bead nose (which is slightly loose but completely attached) and eyes and detailed felt ears which are highlighted with blue airbrushing. Needless to say, Eric was very labor intensive to manufacturer, which may explain why he only appeared in the catalog from 1960 through 1962. That, in conjunction with his relative fragility, is one of the reasons that an Eric in good condition is considered such a treasure for most collectors. Eric retains his named chest tag and raised script button as his Steiff ID. Lot also includes a 17 cm, 1960's era standing Steiff mohair fawn with all IDs and a 10 cm, 1950's era standing Steiff mohair fox without ID. Condition: as noted. All with general surface dust, otherwise very good overall.

Item Dimensions: Largest: 7-1/2" x 5-1/2".
LOT OF 3: RARE EARLY AND ORIGINAL STEIFF ERIC THE BAT WITH IDS.
