Plaster, signed "Copyright by Frederic Remington". Completed in 1903, cast by 1907. 29" high, 19.5" wide"; 11.25" deep. This work is several inches higher than Remington's earlier bronzes because he wanted to emphasize the high, steep slope of the mountain path. Approximately 81 bronze castings exist today. The Mountain Man depicts a dramatic moment in the daily life of a frontier trapper, in which he and his mount work together to descend a precarious slope. Cast by New York’s Roman Bronze Works foundry in the lost-wax technique, the earliest "Mountain Man" statuettes are sharply delineated with a rich variety of textures, from the fringed buckskin garment to the animal’s hairy coat to the rocklike base. Losses, cracks and repairs. A rare opportunity to purchase an original Remington sculpture. Provenance: Guernsey's Auction : "The Roman Bronze Works Collection" September 17, 1988, Lot 209.

This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.
