Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant, First Edition Volume set of 1 & 2. Faced with failing health and financial ruin, the Civil War's greatest general and former president wrote his personal memoirs to secure his family's future. Devoted almost entirely to his life as a soldier, Grant's Memoirs trace the trajectory of his extraordinary career from West Point cadet to Commanding General of the Army. For their directness and clarity, his writings on war are without rival in American literature and his autobiography earns its place in every military themed library. CONDITION: Covers are heavily worn with leather and fabric wrap separating from the fiber board. Binding is mostly tight with loose areas. Pages have yellowed, but the books appear to be complete with all pages, though some are loose. Legible text. Edge wear on some of the pages. A well aged set which would still display nicely.
