Albumen cabinet photo of Captain Henry Jackson, one of the most experienced company commanders in the 7th Cavalry. He was present at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, and later played a major role at the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. By the time of Wounded Knee, he had been the commander of C Troop for over fourteen years since being promoted to fill the vacancy created by Captain Thomas Custer’s death at the Little Big Horn. Jackson had been on active duty almost continually since December 1863 and claimed to have served as an officer in the British army in the 1850s. Scarce image of a lesser known, but nevertheless important leader in the story of our westward expansion. Archival framed and matted with brass description plate. CONDITION: Excellent overall. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.
