Extremely rare original U.S. steel Lewis 97-round pan magazine box with 3 97-round .30-06 pan magazines and 1 loading tool. This box has the capacity to hold 3 97-round magazines on both the top and the bottom for a total capacity for 6. 2 spring-loaded latched are depressed to open this box and it has strong folding metal handles at either end. The pans snap into sheet metal studs within the box and are released in the same manner as the pans are released from the gun. Box is stenciled on top, “LEWIS MACHINE GUN MAGAZINES U.S. - .30 CAL.” CONDITION: Box retains over 90% of its original paint with original black stenciling. 1 of the 3 magazines has fine original lustrous blued finish with some light scattered brown patina. The other 2 pans are more of a rough non-reflective painted finish. All three retain their black leather carrying straps at the top. 1 of the painted pans is missing the buckle from the strap. All pans appear to be fully serviceable. A very attractive set for the owner of a .30-06 Lewis gun who is looking for some difficult to obtain pan magazines, with the box as a useful way to transport them (and others) to and from the range.
