Late 19th century. The S-scrolled molded back is carved with a spray of flowers above a shaped solid seat. The arms are fashioned in the form of swan's wings. The chair raised on a fanciful intertwined base terminating in stylized pointed web feet. With slight imperfections and small repairs, the chair has been heavily cleaned and thus has little patina or original polish. Structurally very good. Fantasy or Grotto furniture gained popularity in the latter part of the 19th century with the advent of the Art Nouveau period and style.
