Just 2,000 of these were contracted for in 1826 and delivered in 1827. Cutlass and scabbard are standard configuration with iron guard extending from flat disc pommel, widening to convex bowl with edges turned out. Counterguard curls forward at the quillon. Cylindrical maple grip with raised ribs and iron ferrules. Blade is curved with single edge and narrow fuller under the back edge extending from the hilt. Correct iron scabbard with frog stud in place. CONDITION: Good. Fine edge and point. Much original black japanning on hilt and upper blade. Smooth metal overall with some pitting. Some crustiness to face of guard and ricasso. The ricasso displays heavy pitting. Rest of blade bright. Visible "ET / US / NSTARR" inspector and maker marks at base of blade. Scabbard with minor dents either side above drag. Smooth metal. No rust or holes. A scarce regulation U.S. Navy cutlass in excellent untouched condition. SR
