Early 19th century. Plymouth, Connecticut. The hood with pierce-carved pediment alternating with brass ball and spire finials above the tombstone arched door flanked by freestanding swelled colonettes with brass capitals and bases, above the rectangular molded door flanked by engaged quarter columns. The box base with scalloped apron on simple bracket feet. The wood 30 hour movement driven by weights and striking on a bell. The wood painted dial with Roman numeral chaptering, subsidiary seconds dial, marked "S. HOADLEY PLYMOUTH" within gilt decorated spandrels beneath the arch decorated with an oval cartouche of a landscape. Original red wash surface intact. Dial original as is the movement. Weights and pendulum present. Good to very good. Dimensions: 92-1/2" tall x 14" throat width x 10" deep.
