A Third Reich Luftwaffe officer sword made by the firm of SMF. The nickel plated steel blade is maker marked with the logo of "E.F. Hörster", as well as the Luftwaffe acceptance stamp. The blade is nickel plated steel with light dulling and a few nicks to the cutting edge on the lower half of blade. The reverse side of the maker mark is electropencilled with the initials "F.H.K. Ow" over "52". It is unclear what this symbolizes. The aluminum cross guard and pommel feature a central gilded swastika on both sides with a light patina throughout. The grip is made of a Moroccan blue leather wrapped wooden core which is bound with a double twist brass cord. A small scuff can be seen on the reverse of the grip. The scabbard features aluminum throat and drag fittings with a matching light patina like that of the guard and pommel, and scattered light marks throughout. The main body of the scabbard is is also wrapped with blue Moroccan leather which exhibits scattered marks, scuffs, and a few small dents throughout. The original blue leather hanger is no longer attached to the scabbard. A gold reproduction portepee is attached to the grip of the sword. CONDITION: Good. D.W.
