Rare and desirable cartridge box for the No. 2 Volcanic. Tan two piece box with green and black label. Label has some spotting and wear to it. Label reads "200 No. 2 Pistol cartridges Manufactured by The Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. New Haven, Conn. Patented August 8th 1854". Top of box is missing back flap. The corners on the lid have been taped. Bottom part of box is buff with no seam splits. Someone has fabricated a wooden block for the inside. There are five original rounds in it. rchasing. A similar box label is pictured on page 24, One Hundred years of Winchester Cartridge Boxes, 1856-1956 Book by Ray T. Giles & Daniel L. Shuey. It so describes the box as the earliest boxes of Volcanic Cartridges, label on the underside of the box. Article above picture also stated they regret that they were unable to obtain a picture of a pasteboard Volcanic cartridge box with the top box label; however such a box with green labeling may be viewed as part of a cased set in the Winchester Collection in Cody Firearms Museum. Box is valued between $17,500 to $27,500, Courtesy of Ed Lewis, M.D. It remains to be a super rare box with the Cody example, none known or in private hands.
