Circa 1912. Bowl with octagonal sides and a conforming spreading foot, the two loop handles attached to rings under rounded lugs, the rim with a thick band over applied letters reading "The course of empire takes its way westward/ November 25th 1912" and on one side with smaller letters "John D Ryan from his companions on the westward trip of 1912 as a token of appreciation", the foot with facsimile signatures above place names in applied letters on the molded edge. Marked under base "Tiffany & Co. 16620 makers 3575 and 29 pints". Diameter: 15-7/8". Weight: 218.95 toz. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
