World War II US Marine Corps P41 Fatigue Jacket named to Carl A. Gomoll. Born on July 26, 1923, Gomoll registered for the draft at age 19 in June 1942, entered the Marine Corps, and graduated boot camp in April 1943. Upon graduation, he was sent to MCB in San Diego, California for signal training. By October 1943, he was assigned to the 27th Replacement Battalion, and later the Fleet Marine Force Transient Center in January 1944. Afterwards, Gomoll was assigned to the 3rd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, FMF in July 1944 and later mustered into the Sixth 155mm Howitzer Battalion, in time to be present for the invasion and subsequent land battle on Okinawa. The first Americans went ashore on March 26, 1945 when the 77th Infantry Division landed at the Kerama Islands. The land battle was fought over 81 days starting on April 1, 1945. Gomoll and the men of the Sixth 155mm Howitzer Battalion went ashore on the islets to provide artillery cover for operations on Okinawa. He was active throughout the campaign, survived the war, and returned to civilian life. Carl Gomoll passed away on September 18, 1990. Gomoll's P41 fatigue jacket is in standard configuration with 1 upper and 2 lower pockets, with the upper pocket featuring the correct USMC stamp. The back of the jacket is stenciled "G.A. GOMOLL" with red paint. CONDITION: The jacket exhibits scattered yellow-brown stains. USMC stamp exhibits slight fading. Complete with all original USMC donut buttons. Fraying in some areas, especially the button holes. Overall very good. This is a great example of a P41 jacket named to a veteran who was present at Okinawa. JLD
