World War II shirt and license plate named to Major General Guy Blair Denit, who served as chief surgeon on General MacArthur's staff of the US Army Forces in the Pacific. Denit was born on September 28, 1891 and received a Doctor of Medicine degree from he Medical College of Virginia in 1914. He was appointed as a first lieutenant in the Virginia national Guard and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the Regular Army in 1918. During World War I, Denit was assigned to the 29th Infantry Division where he served in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces until returning to the States in 1919. He held various stateside assignments throughout the interwar years and when World War II broke out he was designated as chief surgeon of a section in the North African Theater of Operations. In November 1943, he was sent to the South Pacific where he served in the Far East. Later, in August 1945, he was designated as chief surgeon on General MacArthur's staff where he remained until 1946. In 1948, Denit was appointed chief surgeon of European Command, and was later the chief surgeon of the newly organized US Army in Europe, headquartered at Heidelberg. Denit accumulated an impressive resume throughout his military career and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Army Commendation Ribbon. He passed away in 1976. The high quality private purchase wool shirt was fabricated in Kansas and is named to Denit on a small tag that is stapled to the bottom edge. The shirt features a machine sewn First Army patch on the left shoulder as well as his clutch back Major General insignia which are secured to the collar. The stars are marked "NORSID" on the reverse. The shirt is accompanied by a Brigadier General license plate as well as a folder with a brief history of Denit. CONDITION: The shirt is very clean and exhibits light scattered blemishes. The ink tag with Denit's name has slightly faded and browned with age. License plate exhibits scattered paint loss.
