George Tryon manufactured Militia or trade rifle using a hodgepodge of period parts. Gun has smoothbore octagonal barrel with rifle sights stamped "Tryon Phila". Tryon marked flint lock with single trigger control. Walnut stock with musket style butt with cheek piece and what resembles an 1814 style oval side opening patchbox. Brass furniture of "Kentucky rifle" style with small trade rifle style nose cap. Musket style sideplate and metal ramrod. CONDITION: Overall dark patina on all metal surfaces. Wood has added coat of shellac with possibility of having been sanded. Small chip from behind the tang. Lock is a reconversion and barrel and lock plate have pits from percussion cap use.
