This rifle has a clearly and well struck hallmark between the hammers depicting a Crown over a crossed sword and scepter, indicating that this rifle was once a part of the Bavarian King's Royal Gun Room, for hunting. Barrels with horizontally dovetailed bead front sight, two leaf rear sight on decorated base with finial and silver banner reading "F. Baader u. Sohn in Munchen". Breech decorated with gold and silver inlay. Back action locks, tang, and left hammer decorated with acanthus engraving. Double set triggers. Underbarrel is smoothbore for shot, over barrel is rifled for ball. Right lock inlaid in gold "F. Baader", left "In Munchen". Checkered at wrist with scalloped wave engraving, distinctive flowing trigger guard pierced with waves and carved with the head of a dog. Carved scene on left side of stock depicting a stag in a meadow scene. Engraved buttplate. Patchbox on right side has been repaired. CONDITION: Good. Metal essentially a smooth brown throughout. Wood with numerous distinct marking, splice at forearm, splits at buttplate, and missing piece out of trigger guard. Right hammer replaced. Left hammer broken at top. Action works appropriately, bore is excellent with even oxidation throughout. EW
