Barrel in 2 stages with line decoration at girdle, stepped down for the second section. Breech with "(Crown) / CP", "(Crown) / V" proofs and an indistinct third proof. Brass tipped ramrod, probably replaced, feeding through a single faceted ferrule. Brass, convex, banana lock with wriggle work engraving at rear borders, unbridled pan, and swan neck cock, signed "BOULTON" under pan. Brass trigger guard with pineapple finial. Sideplate with 2 lockbolts and engraving of a dragon, probably later. Brass buttcap with long stirrups. CONDITION: Barrel is mostly grey metal with some light scattered patination towards muzzle and some deeper peppering on first section, particularly around touchhole. Lock is very good, cleaned, with some scratches and engraving heavily softened, Boulton signature particularly soft. Stock has some handling marks and period nail repairs, last 5 - 1/2" of stock has been repaired, with a clear delineation. One crack on side plate running up to barrel. Brass has a deep untouched patina, sideplate brighter as later. Mechanically fine, bore is good with a minimum of oxidation. EMW
